WG of Arrhythmias and Pacing

 

Working Group of Arrhythmias and Pacing is one of the first working groups of the Finnish Cardiac Society. The Working Group was founded by the initiative of Prof. Gottfried Härtel and it has been functioning since 1980.

The main task of the Working Group is to arrange national training sessions in rhythm cardiology. Those include both basic sessions for trainees in cardiology and electrophysiology, sessions for internists, general practitioner as well as more advanced sessions for specialists in clinical electrophysiology. The sessions may be arranged by the Working Group or in collaboration with some other affiliations. Annual training sessions can be found from the Home Page of the Finnish Cardiac Society.

The Working Group also actively participates for preparation of National Guidelines in management of arrhythmias. The Working Group promotes uniform national treatment strategies for arrhythmias.

At the moment the President of the Working Group is Consultant Cardiologist Pekka Raatikainen from Oulu University Hospital and Secretary Consultant Cardiologist Antti Hedman from Kuopio University Hospital.


Relationship with ESC

Members of the Finnish Cardiac Society are entitled for a free membership of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA). The Working Group encourages members of the Working Group to apply for a membership and to attend accreditation exams (Invasive Electrophysiology and/or Cardiac Pacing and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators) arranged by the EHRA.

A member of the Working Group, Past President Prof. Heikki Huikuri is an EHRA Accreditation National Delegate in Nordic Countries. He is also a member of the cardiology section of the European Union of Medical Specialist (UEMS) and the European Board for Specialists in Cardiology (EBSC).
